BCA operates under the principles of the 2021 UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science — adopted by 194 Member States as the first international standard-setting instrument on open science. The Recommendation’s seven priority areas (common understanding, enabling policy, infrastructure investment, training and capacity-building, culture and incentives, innovative approaches, and international cooperation) shape how BCA supports its doctoral candidates and how its scholarship enters the public record.

Turning doctoral scholarship into a clause-mapped institutional asset
BCA’s CIAO Standard Membership applies the Dynamic Standards Selection Engine to the institution’s research-governance landscape — mapping institutional research integrity policies, doctoral examination procedures, and open-access mandates against the relevant clauses of ISO 9001 Quality Management, the UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science, and the open-access stipulations carried in the institution’s national funding frameworks. The exercise produces a single clause-mapped view of the institution’s research-integrity posture across the source standards it must demonstrably observe.
